Pod Racing is almost a reality with Drone Racing.

Popular in the underground scene, drone racing has been around as long as drones have. The Pilots wear video goggles (not beer goggles) to steer these custom built machines trough obstacle courses. The first US national drone racing championship took place last summer in California, although not many watched it. The DRL (Drone Racing League), which has raised over $8 Million USD from venture capital firms and celebrities, hopes to be  the Formula 1, NASCAR and MotoGP of drone racing. Unlike these organizations, all the events will be pre-recorded. The Producers will stitch together video from the cameras on board and HD footage to create visuals for the audience.
